Years ago bill showed me where various gears wear and fail when I bought 3 from Malcolm?? (middleborough rd days) Capst me $50
I had the all three stripped and those gears Edp(sp?) drilled and bearings replaced
Worked well ( not expensive) and not too noisy

Seems like if you put plenty of good grease on the input gear teeth and they still have enough to mesh that the drive should work. Time to have a play now.
According to the post close to $500 to have this work done, seems a little out of reach for what it is.....considering you can buy the new input shaft and clutch gear, for the fairey at least, for a lot less than this from the UK. Given the lack of parts for the toro I don't know that it would be too worthwhile doing this for most owners.
Hi guy's I fitted a bronze bush to replace the roller bearing, had no trouble even though I had a 302 ford windsor V8 and C4 auto grafted to the series 111 transfer 8)
I think it would have to be the clutch sleeve for the reason I mentioned above. The larger roller bearing that supports the output gear in the OD housing rarely fails and doesn't Brinnel the surfaces.A bronze bushing here would be subject to very high friction and high rpms, the resultant heat would probably boil the overdrive lubricant.
A bushing on the clutch sleeve gives 2 bearing surfaces, so the 1000rpm difference I mentioned in my post would be the absolute maximum if the bushing was a press fit on the clutch sleeve or in the output gear.A sliding fit on both surfaces could see the 1000rpm figure halved.
