    D2 Won't Start!

    Hi all,
    Frustration Time!
Increasingly more regular (every 2nd time), my D2 won't start when the key is turned.
All the lights and accessories come on but the TD5 won't turn over.
It's not like a flat battery as everything else is ok.
I have found that activating the key fob, either pushing the lock or unlock (makes no difference) either when in the ignition or in my pocket (again no difference) with or without the doors closed (again no difference) makes the starter function work.
I am and will continue to search the forum for related threads but so far hits.

I am thinking that it may be related to the fob, as I need to change the battery as unlock range has degraded from 8-10 m to 2-3 metres.
    Could this be related somehow?

Any one any hints or similar exp?

Sounds very like starter solenoid contacts to me.
Do a search there are a few threads.

If you can hear a relay operating when you turn to "start" it's likely the starter solenoid. If you can't, it's either the neutral safety switch, immobiliser or the relay.

I am no closer to isolating the fault!
I don't believe it's the starter motor as, already stated, there is no relay action happening. I swapped the relay with another one which seems to rule the relay out.
I think I need to throw a diag comp on now to read the BCU codes.

    Mmmmm.

It is almost a constant fault condition now as well. I have to unlock or lock the car then immediately start it.
    Grrrrr.

Check the fuse for your interior lights, Had the same problem recently. that fuse also controls the imobiliser re arming.

Assuming it's an auto, move the gear lever around slightly while trying to start. If it then starts, your problem is in the immobiliser switches on the side of the gearbox. They tend to get water inside (air con drain is directly above) and corrode the switches.

Otherwise I'd be looking more closely at the starter solenoid as JC suggested back at post #3 - not the relay but the solenoid attached to the starter motor.

Both are common starter problems with D2's

    Just an update.
    Fixed the problem.
Was able to purchase a second fob from a member here and coded it with my nanocom. Added a cut blade and works a treat. The problem must be the passive coil circuit on my first fob which incidentally is now playing up. Worn or sticky micro switches I suspect, but won't always activate upon pressing a button. New battery didn't help.
So a win and a loss.
Now have to get it fixed

    Cheers
    Ralph
