M16 x 1.5 from memory
Hi All
After replacing the oil pump sprocket bolt, I stuffed up, and stripped the thread out of the aluminium sump!
The plan is to fit a heli-coil to repair.
It looks like a 5/8in UNF. Can anybody confirm this size please?
Thanks
Adrian
PS the bolt was tight on my 2003 Disco.

I am pretty sure the thread is M16 x 1.5.

Thanks guys
It looks more like M16X1.5 which is a more common size than the UNF we originally came up with.
I will post when the job is done.

could you not tap it to the next size up, after all a plug is just a bolt with a washer
I see one can buy a sump plug repair kit, which taps out to M17 for a new plug. On the Td5 there is a ring (boss) around the plug, and I don't think a larger sump plug would fit inside this ring.
I also prefer the idea of a steel thread which will make a repeat occurrance less likely. The thread repair kit I ordered should be delivered tomorrow, let the fun begin.

When one of ours started to strip I drilled and tapped a bsp thread into the sump plug itself and then loctited the plug into the sump.I think its a 3/8 bsp plug and some thread tape each oil change.

That is a novel solution.
My repair went well, the thread is M16x1.5. As a hint to Others, try and get a thread insert that is around 15mm (1xD) long. Mine sticks through about 5mm thus preventing complete emptying of the sump.
Thanks for the input.
