Cant give you any info other than I was told by more than one person to stay away from zues gears they are trouble
Have had a few power issues that seem to be sorted now.
MTQ fitted a new set of injector nozzles that seem to have given me a little more low down grunt that I was looking for.
Problem is now Im blowing considerable black smoke under load.
My question is..... the car is fitted with Zues timing gears as opposed to a belt.
Could this make the actual tuning harder/impossible with little/no adjustment?
Im reluctant to mention this to MTQ without a word from the wise.
Im out of my depth here.
Your thoughts are appreciated.
Cheers Dean.

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Dean,
My experience with Zeus gears has been excellent off the line go with almost no smoke, (auto 300 Tdi) and they are just as easy to set up for timing as a belt. In fact if it weren't for their reputation for total catastrophic failure I'd be fitting them often.
I would suggest they have possibly dialed in more fuel, did they adjust it using a pyrometer? If you are experiencing lots of black smoke then i would be taking it easy until you can measure the EGT's accurately.

The gears won't affect tunability.
Someone on here asked MTQ about a turbo for a 300Tdi, they suggested something that had the wastegate set to 9 psi. (OEM is ~16 psi).
If they don't know that, then...???
Hi Dean
I studied the fitting of Zeus gears and left them alone.
If for some reason the oil feed to them fails, its Tata for another engine.
.
Not sure MTQ really know what they are doing.
Took the wife's Delica there to cure a 'misfire'. Yes I know diesels don't misfire but that's the best description I can give. It would hesitate intermittantly under load, sometimes it would be very bad, sometimes worse just after starting up in the morning.
They stuck it on their rolling road, replicated the problem but told me the pump had to be sent away to QLD to a specialist to be checked. When I asked about cost they said that the problem was if the pump couldn't be fixed I would be left with a car with no injector pump. They really didn't want the job......
I came away with a bill for over $200 and no solution.
Found out via the Delica forum that the alternator failing can give the same symptoms. Took the alternator off (which is a real PITA on the Delica) got it checked out and it was failing, fitted a reco and the problem was solved....
Seems that electrical 'noise' from the failing alternator was confusing the electronic injection system. The battery was still getting charged which means you weren't alerted to the alternator as a potential problem.
After this I was told by a contact in the trade that he had given up with MTQ and now uses AG Diesel in Clayton South (just beside the Westall bypass). I haven't tried them but if you get no joy with MTQ it might be worth speaking to them.

Thanx 4 the replies.
The gears were fitted at 35k by the previous owner.
The car now has 135k. Ive heard all the horror stories but so far its all been good.
Will have another yack with MTQ & see where it goes.
Justin, I'll take it easy till I get the egt report.
Grommit, the place u mentioned is very close to me so if I dont get the results Im after, I'll give them a try, thanx.
Cheers Dean.
Got back to MTQ, who said they were trying to get me more bottom end power as requested (to tow my small 1ton van) & may have overfuelled a touch.
Goes back in next week for a little adjustment.
Thanx again Justin for the offer.
Cheers Dean.
