    Budget for head work

As per a previous post, I've got a 4.4 motor with 3.5 EFI heads that has only done 115,000km but has a burnt-out exhaust valve.
Have pulled the heads off a '97 3.9 motor with slipped liner, leak-tested the valves with petrol and nearly all valves leak to varying extents; thus whichever heads I use will need work.
Can anyone tell me how much hard-earned it will cost me these days to have a pair of heads reconditioned? I figure if I use the 3.5 heads, the guides should all still be good as all this was done when the engine was built. The 3.9 heads might be preferable though as they are 10-bolt as is the 4.4 block, however with over 320k on them they will need everything done.

Also, can anyone recommend a machinist in Gippsland or eastern Melbourne to extend the woodruff keyway in the 4.4 crankshaft for a serpentine belt conversion?

Watching with interest Pete since I'm in a similar boat, although extent of work required is unknown.

The most economical way might be to strip the 3.9 heads and see how they respond to a quick bit of hand lapping in. Or nick a single valve out of the 3.9 heads and lap it into the 3.5 head. A bit of guide clearance helps keep the valve head lubed!

Yeah, might have a go at lapping the 3.9 valves, think I even have some 20+ year old lapping paste and a stick somewhere. I think the seat will be cactus on the burnt ex valve on the 3.5, might be worth a look though.
