hey Philip
does it come with a sensor? I read (all be it skimmed) the article but didn't see one?
I bought a digital temp gauge as described in this article and finished fitting it today.
Browser Warning ( I do not know why it does this I used to subscribe to Autospeed and have gone to the site with no ill effects for several years)
It is almost unbelievable to be able to get such a deal.
It was quite a task to fit, as it comes with a sort of bare sensor. I drilled a 4MM hole in a 8MM bolt , filled the 0.1MM gap with heat conducting paste and araldited the sensor into the bolt. On my Thor manifold I have a spare tapped thread on top of the front of the manifold, so the temp should be pretty accurate.
I bought a Jaycar box to fit the sensor into , as I didn't want to cut a hole in the dash of my RRC. I passed the wires down through the "ashtray/oddments box" on top of the dash and just double sided taped it behind the ashtray. The wires can go through the ashtray , easily down to the drivers side dash area , where I picked up acc power and an earth.
I have fitted a switch to the box as the display doesn't dim and I thought it may dazzle at night , but I don't do much night driving anyway.
I haven't added a buzzer but this is possible as the gauge even has a relay fitted. You could add control of the aircon fans if you want them to come on earlier than the switch on the thermo housing does.

Nice one Philip.
Just what I've been looking for. Being the eternal tight ass that price is just fantastic. Will let you know how it performs once I receive it.
It looks good, the ebay ad for it shows the thermocouple,
if this is the right ad

That's a bucket load cheaper than the same DIN size Carel brand refrigeration ones I use all the time![]()

Just bought two!
Am now looking for some additional 'thermistors' (is that the right terminology?) so I can have a couple of different temperatures to measure on the one unit, and switch between them..... such as radiator temp, exterior temp, etc
In the specs for the unit, it details this for the sensor:
Sensor Type: NTC (10K/3435)
Is this a suitable one?
2 pcs Thermistor in #6 Lug, 10K @ 25 C, J Curve, NTC | eBay
2 pcs Thermistor in #6 Lug
The lug allows the sensor to be firmly mounted to the
part that is being monitored, for reliable and accurate
temperature measurements.
Leads are 1.5" long. The last 0.2" (approx) are stripped and tinned.
NOTE: Picture is a stock picture, actual wire/potting color may vary.
