    Erring speedo on start-up

    Greetings all!
My Defender (Td5-engine, 2001 MY) has recently developed the following symptoms:
On start-up from cold the speedo needle goes up approximately to the 50/60 mark, stays there for a couple of seconds before plummeting to its resting position again. This happens inconsistently only and has never occurred when starting the warm engine.
I find this most puzzling and don't have any clue what the reason might be and therefore hope someone here will be able to enlighten me. I have a slight worry that this symptom heralds the failure of some components that, in accordance with Murphy's Law, will be difficult/expensive/almost impossible to repair and hence want to address this problem in time.
    Thanks for all advice!
    Cheers
    Johannes

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.

I had the same thing with my last defender 99 td5.

No idea why it did it, I just put it down to, it was trying to talk to me.
