No you wouldn't. You are perhaps confusing diesels and petrols. The compression ratio is fine for na application, and indeed most diesels offered in NA and T spec use the same compression ratio.

I doubt removing the turbo would improve longevity. The people who convert 200's and 300's to na usually do it to preserve series gearboxes/drivetrains.

I am ex forces, and pre TDI days there was the 2.5 na diesel. bit of a slug but they just took a flogging and never seemed to break:eek: ..Trust me when they're not yours they get flogged!
All I ever hear about is head gasket faliure on the TDIs so I just thought keep it simple stupid (KISS) and build up an old 300 tDi into a keeper.
I have access to a cheap 300 and just got thinking...you know how it is:)
Thinking single cab 109 series chassis (cos theyre cheap) high level comp style tray offset 33's parabolics etc etc looks cool but cheap n reliable

Now I have a question for you blokes:
is the front end of a 300TDi crank different to a 200TDi/2.5 litre front end?
I am doing some experimenting with a 300TDi and really need to use a 200 crank to get the tail end bits, but never having seen a naked 200TDi crank I dont know if all the 300 bits will bolt on to the front. (I am reasonably comfortable with what I can do at the back.

Also, where is the best place to buy a TDi crank from?

His non turbo power estimate (85hp) is probably not far wrong, but his non turbo torque estimates (179-180ft-lb, aka 230-245Nm)are quite generous.

I have a 2.2 non turbo direct injection diesel in my work car. But it also has the advantage of 4 valves per cylinder.
Factory figures are 150Nm and 58kw.
I would give the 300Di around 190Nm max (130 ft-lb) and 80hp. Attempts to get more will just make it smoke more.
