    Hot hubs after diff upgrade

    Hi Guys
I have just had an Ashcroft locker fitted to the front diff on my 87 Rangie along with as set of Hy tuff axles and A pair of Ahcroft cv's. All works well accept that the hubs get very hot. Even after a short drive of 20mins I couldn't hold my hand on the front hubs as they where so hot.
I questioned my mechanic so he checked the hubs and bearing but said everything is ok. Is this normal?
    Cheers
    Mark

How tight are the wheel bearings?

nope, brakes may be touching, bearings may be slightly too tight OR worse the drive axle may be scuffing inside the stub housing or its bearing.

    Thanks for the replies.
Seems that after a bit more driving they have settled down. After an hour long trip on the freeway the hubs where warm but not hot.
What are the advantages of oil filled hubs? Mine are still greased.
I have put in Ascroft cv's.

Gee, I wish I could do an upgrade like that to mine! LR changed to a runny grease to stop the swivel balls leaking. I've always used oil in my 93, as I feel it looks after the cv better.

Oil lubricates better and is easier to change for routine maintenance or after water ingress.

Yes I saw you had Ahscroft CV's just wondering if the are the AEU2522 type or other. Reason I asked is, if they dont do a drop in exact replace ment cv, ie the R06665 or what ever the RR cv is, then there may be some slight change in parts like bonze bush etc. Just wanted to make sure all the correct parts where in there Incase a miss match was casing issue???

IMO oil is better and it will lubricate the splines of the axle and driveflange along with the wheel bearings

good to hear they have settled down
