I just got the DVD today and it is a massive help. I hope to use the 3.5 v8 because I've heard they're a great engine but a bit thirsty. Also can anyone help source a rangie suitable for the project in WA preferably near Albany
True because we used have a FJ 40 'Cruiser that would drain a tank in about 200Km
Hi.
I dont want to be a dampner on your project.
YES easily built and a great project.
BEFORE you start,go the the Transport mob in Welshpool and discuss it with them in person,I did.
Get the paperwork,I did.
Ask lots of questions,I did.
Complete the paperwork,I did.
Get the approval,I did.
DONT START THE PROJECT,I did.
SEE YOUR ENGINEER BEFORE STARTING ANYTHING,I DIDNT!!!!
I was given BAD info by the Transport people and Im left with a Ser3 109 with a 6" lift and ford 302 V8 and auto.
Lots of money spent,HEAPS more to licence it.Oneday I will use it as a mud racer or something, cant sell it as it owes me HEAPS and is worth nothing.
The engineer was happy with my job, should have talked to him FIRST.
BEWARE ENJOY;););););)
Andrew
Thanks for that, I'm not sure about any of the engineering places in Albany or the transport department down here because I asked many questions on the legalities of this project and they couldn't give any of the answers I needed and the place I was told to go to told me that I needed an engineers ticket for engine mounts on my original idea of using the standard chassis with the 3.5 engine so do I need a ticket on all the body mounts
Lots of things need to be engineered. A report has to be produced for the whole vehicle.
There was talk on this forum a while ago about the rules changing. This required a separate report for each modification and, at about $1000 per report, potentially an expensive exercise for the many modifications you will have to do. This could all be complete rubbish of course, so I would encourage you to go and chat about your project to an automotive engineer first as Andy should have done.
My recent experience involving a Mercedes fintail illustrated how difficult and frustrating this process can be. A fellow enthusiast was trying to get a thirty year old Ford engine replacement engineered and roadworthied for registration. In the end he sold the problem to someone else.
