ICEBERG project from the mid 80's was dropped, and Leyland bought in the VM 2.4 ltr 4 cyl diesel from Italy, which gave you the Range Rover "TurboD" with a 5 speed g'box

It's a real shame it was a great looking vehicle. I don't think my 100" will be parked to close to any threatening trees. It's also a shame about project ICEBERG. wonder if it would have been any more fuel efficient than the petrol version.
Here's a few photos of the Rangie I bought.

Holy cow someone hit that with the bodgey stick (rattle can) haha, wonder why they painted it like that?!? If it's mechanically good you've got yourself an excellent base vehicle, no need to butcher a 'pretty' Rangie, good luck
Cheers
Will
Well she doesn't look great but all the mechanicals are sound and all the body panels are in the back. It's painted like that because the guy i'm buying it off left it at his old mans place and he got sick of it being there so he painted it in house paint . The engine has high compression pistons, low torque cam ( good for 4WDriving), a Holley 350 which i'm concerned about for off road use and has a full gas system apart from a gas tank which isn't too bad because I've got a full 100L tank sitting in the shed. The gearbox has new seals and bearings. It's a great buy for $800 with spare filters and other bits and pieces.

I think you'll find the actual conversion will be a doddle compared to dealing with the Department of Transport. They told me when I called that I'd have to go through the whole damn approval process to change from an auto to the manual gearbox available at the time for my Rangie. And then I asked someone who works up here, and it turned out to be okay to do it without telling them after all.
Some of the staff should have to wear red noses and drive around in clown cars. Then we'd know who we're dealing with. So . . . clear the whole thing with them first and get it all on paper.
Julien Tickel at Discovery Automotive in Perth has just what you're building and may be able to help.

Well to start with it's already a manual and I've talked to some guys at a automotive shop ( the main place in town to put your car over the pits) about getting it road worthy and they said it's fine but the only thing I need is an engineering certificate on the body mounts.

No, what gearbox is has isn't my point, my point is that I asked two different public servants and got two completely different answers. Talk to the Department and get everything clear. You don't want one those expensive surprises. It is a major modification and I'd say you'll have to fill out that long form and get permission and so on and so on.
