    Defender with no gears

    Hi everyone,
    Im in the last stages of fixing up my defender, 110, 200tdi, lt77, and i went for a test drive today and could only find first gear and reverse. Every other gear clunked in and engaged but let the clutch out and nothing happened.
    I tried the same thing in low range and had all gears.
    Can anyone help with why it might happen or where to start looking for the problem?

    So are you are saying all the gears work in low range,
    but only 1 & R work in high range ??

    Dosent seem logical to me.

    Are you sure it didn't slip out of high range into neutral on the transfer box, after you tested 1st and reverse ?

    Id be looking for something simple like fouling of the transfer case lever / mechanism

    Yeah turns out it was jumping out of high range under load. Low range it locked it properly and engaged. I guess high is a bit worn and it can slip out.
    Thanks for the reply as well. Really had me stumped until I thought about it.
