Probably. You need to either spend zillions on a new one or not very much on an old second hand Bosch alternator, and make it fit. You either spend $$$ or innovate, take your pick.
Today I checked the voltage at the excite terminal wire and its only 9.9 .
Also checked coil +ive at 13.5 - 14.4 ( battery voltage the same ) while running .
Anyone got any clues weather this is indicating a problem .

XE/XF Falcon 6 comes closest, it has the tacho connection built in, a small round terminal (used for an auto choke but works fine as tacho). Apparently there's a Magna one that fits well too but you will need to open it up (4 screws plus two regulator screws) and solder a wire to one of the main diode junctions to use as a tach connection. A 15 minute job.
My mate bought a 12V120A universal Bosch alt off the local sparkie, it needed a different depth pulley to fit, the sparkie had one just right. Some flat washers and some flat bar to extend the adjuster arm and it was fitted. It even came with tach output.
today i bolted the one of my disco 1 . All is good the old one was definitely gonski .
Thanks for everyones help .
