Agree on the first sentence. :D
More seriously though, I have wondered how real the risk is of damage to the vehicle by driving it hot (after normal driving/4x4'ing) into really cold water? Diffs, plus really anything that gets submerged in cold water rapidly... How likely is this to damage things?
I have done numerous water crossings in my standard 95 disco 300tdi, from axle depth to windscreen depth and havent ever had problems with water in diff, trans gearbox etc,no raised breathers etc, door seals are all good, water halfway up the windscreen did allow some through the intake for the cabin air though, should have pressed the recicr button i guess!
As is duct tape over the air intake, which is a much better idea.

lanolin spray on the dizzy/coil works well.
not turning this into a ****ing contest, but my 3.9L with snorkel, rangie cannister airbox, and lanolin spray over coil and dizzy has seen its fair share of over bonnet deep water without so much as a hiccup!

is that the air intake at the bottom of the windscreen? my halfway up the windscreen crossing wasnt planned, it was a nessecity to rescue an injured person in the pilbra WA, good old landies, is there nothing they cant do?
megasquirt/jolt with EDIS coil packs is damn near waterproof also!
