i have had to modify a steel bar to take my pto winch, i tied the cradle into the chassis to be on the safe side

Dual battery and winching:
Run the winch off the starting battery ... winches draw a lot of current when under load and as you will be running the motor while winching, you want as much charging as possible to be coming from your alternator. For second battery I think you should plan on a Traxide unit, maybe Tim's new 160 unit with remote winch/starting cabin switch. I am biased with batteries as I supply Optimas, and would still run the winch from the starting battery.
Well started this arvo, not an easy job that's for sure. I'll take pics as I go, if anyone is interested I'll post them, if not I won't :). Gotta buy 2 more pieces of steel tomorrow. But will be strong as an ox by the end
I run my winch straight from my only battery and no isolator switch. I am relying on the supplied switch on the winch control box. I also rely on a heavy pair of side cutters I keep in the car to cut the winch electrics if all goes wrong. I am also relying on the cable protector stuff I have around all the electrics to and from the battery. I put a lot of thought into routing the heavy electric stuff to avoid chaff points etc using cable ties to make sure things were hitched out of the way. If I read you correctly you have no intention at this stage of serious mega winching, just as insurance so no rush for a second battery as far as I can see for you.
I have a steel ARB bar so for me no concern for additional winch cradle, I would take whatever TJM recommend for their bar in your case though.

Nah bud, I live on the central coast, my mrs works at greystanes. But I'm taking step by step pics. ALOT of cutting into plate with grinder (nothing lines up lol) but as the base plate it's great. Yeah I'll be running it off my main (after reading everyone's advice) but will be a doing 2nd battery setup in a few weeks. Doing search on Tim's setups BUT as I'm new to forum I don't know who Tim is or how much his setups areQuote:
