    That was a stupid use for that tool, I NEVER use it for anything less than battery lugs etc.

    Shouldn't have been a send up, harbour lights tools are big in the US...

    No, that video was the real thing. I was thinking about it later, and the tool I just bought is shown on eBay as having the hexagonal dies, so I expect it will work better. Lord knows what dies they were using. I thought the dorky big gloves didn't help as well!

    We got lucky today... Boat owner found some 70mm2 (90?) welding cable, around 20 metres surplus to requirements. - Don't need to buy any now.

    Great excuse to go with a 12 ton hydraulic crimper.

    Swmbo ordered me the 8T one....

    at least I wont have to make dies for the smaller crimps...

    and yes, you just know that after seeing them use it to crimp 2mm electrical crimps I am going to make a die for that.

    Look quicker than a hand held ratchet crimper

    Mine arrived yesterday, not long after I bought it through their eBay shop, so no complaints there. It works well for what it's made for, which is the big stuff, so I can't work out what the little dies are for. Maybe for swaging tiny wire rope?

    Anyway, for your edification, here's what it does with an insulated fitting. You can see that it just doesn't work, and I could pull out the wire.



    So then I pulled off the insulation from another one and tried it, and this happened:



    BUT, I used it for a battery lug and it worked very well:



    And so I'm quite happy with it for that. Previously I used a homemade tool in my homemade press, so this is an improvement.

    Mine came the other day, went for a 10 to 120mm crimper as most of my stuff will be battery cable and bigger, and being me, wanted the extra 'reserve'

    Some pics, using a 25 mm cable and die, and a 35mm lug. (did'nt have a 25 lug)
    Overall I'm very happy with it, - the wings can be easily filed off and the effort (?) is quite ok.

    Would be nice if they could supply dies for 6mm... They can't/don't.

    A while ago I also bought a pliers type of tool for Anderson connectors, but I think this would be better. I won't know until I actually need to use it since I haven't seen replacement Anderson parts in the shops here - that puts you off experimenting.
