Owning an Independent shop fixing Landrovers, its my oft exclamation to the young blokes fresh out of college.

However I had to replace the front hub bearing on a Range Rover 2005 L322 recently. The steering knuckle is akin to a big Honda/VW.
I grabbed the Hub tamer tool--wouldn't fit--- hmmm!
Tried to balance it in the press on the bed plates--wouldn't fit--- Ahhm!

Called my local friendly dealer, they just bung the whole lot in the trash--(crikey no wonder later Landrover repairs are expensive!)

So I went groveling in the scrap bin out back! ---Bingo.
An Eaton big truck brake drum from a 16/18000 lbs rated rig axle has the right internal diameter to sit the knuckle on which can then be mounted in the press. Fits nicely on the flat nubs machined on the casting
Bearing removal is then a simple pressing excercise.
I have even sent one of rusty drums over to the dealer, its now painted red with "special tool" stenciled on the side.

So in future don't buy the lot, just the bearing (about $100) and find/scrounge an old brake drum from your local Kenworth/Peterbilt dealer.
You might have to give them a few "schillings" ($$$) if my place is anything to go by! We weigh in the scrap for our Christmas vittel expenses.
