    Puma weird noise!!

Just wondering if someone can tell me what the noise is when you turn a puma (110 wagon) off and a weird noise appears in a sequence ? I am asuming from the noise it is some sort of system check or pressure system of some sort relieving I initially thought of the abs system or clutch (not that i would expect clutch pressure needs to be monitored)but I'm not up on the electronic garbage why I ask is because the noise has now changed from the smooth pattern that it has always been to a terrible un even scratchy noise!!! So if I can determine what the component is that makes the noise I can trace the problem...

    Regards

It's the EGR valve doing it's self clean cycle. If it keeps making a racket it may have to be changed, (however you may get away with cleaning it).

    Cheers,

    Tim

Edit: This is what's behind the cover, some people have had a problem with the little electric motor or gears getting clogged up:

The part I cannot understand is a weird quick noise happens when I change gears as I release the clutch it occurs quickly but it can also happen when I am under load and I slightly back off it will make it too....it's not gearbox and clutch feels fine but it started making this noise as soon as the shut down noise changed to so hopefully it all points to the egr...

That sounds like the clutch. Mine was doing something similar after about 20,000km and LR replaced the clutch. Something to do with the springs from memory.

The shutdown noise is most likely the EGR as Tim has mentioned. It does a self clean cycle (even if programmed shut) when the ignition is turned off. See this thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/90-110-130...hat-noise.html

its the sound of electronically controlled stuff going wrong...

if you're lucky pulling it down and cleaning it up as per the IAC unit on the older 3.9 v8 will get it going again. They also have been known to cause problems in the transit version of the engine if the signal wire has a dirty connection.

Worst case scenario set it closed, disconnect it and live with the loss of power you'll get till you can get it replaced, If you leave it open further than the compter thinks its set you can cause damage from overfueling.

I have a couple of BAS re-maps, both have EGR programmed shut. There is no noise what so ever, even after switching off when either of those two maps are in.

The third map is the factory map. With this map installed the EGR noise returns. So I don't think that the self cleaning cycle operates with EGR programmed shut, at least with BAS.

If you disconnect or blank out the EGR in the Puma the airflow sensor on the EGR valve registers a fault and worst case puts the engine into limp mode. It can be partially blanked but not fully or mapped closed. Unfortunately not as simple as the Td5
