    Snow chains to suit D4

Does anyone have experience with Autotecnica snow chains on a D4 2.7 (18" rims, standard tyres)? Is there any particular brand known to work well with the (apparently) small wheel-to-suspension tolerances?
    Many thanks

Thanks, yeah, eBay is where I saw them. Certainly cheap - $160/pr, and looked to have an interesting fitting/self tensioning setup.
I just want something for the off chance I'll ever need them getting to the snow...

Thule/Konig make chains to suit. Easy fitment and removal, designed for minimal clearance vehicles but they do come at a price. K summit range, available through ARB

    Hi Stuart,
if your traveling to the major snow resorts then there usually are shops that hire them on a daily hire charge.

But it would pay to ring them before to make sure they have your size.

If you regularly go to snow each season then a purchase would be a better proposition.
Where you can rent Snow Chains in Victoria

    Regards.

These are the same style as the Spike-Spider chains (as shown in the D4/RRS brochures). They are the only style of chains that will fit and clear the top suspension joint with the 20" wheels.

If you have 19" wheels then you might have the clearance to fit conventional chains, but there's no way I'd rock up to a chain hire outfit and blindly fit whatever they handed me. It'll need careful checking in a situation that's a lot more comfortable than those usually experienced when fitting chains.

About half the cost here in NZ for the Thule versions.
