Do I need to use a gasket on rover diff?

I recently removed my front diff out of my 1988 V8 110. A gasket that seals the diff to the housing was present but either needs replacing or just a bead of silicone might suffice. The later being recommended in later models. Is it ok to just replace with a bead of silicone or will the small difference in alignment be bad for the axles? Cheers in advance.

Yes it is OK to use flange sealant.

I use the black auto silicone, works fine. I've pulled my diffs apart numerous times and resealed them this way. The biggest problem i've had is pulling them apart, it's very sticky.

And just a small bead, about 5mm or so across at the most. Not 30mm like some do!
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
