No, and No.
It sounds like a certain P38a Rangie owning moderator has far too much time on his hands.
To my mind it's a bit of a waste of time having the L318 in the Disco 2 forum title.
Unlike the Range Rovers where the code P38a or L322 is often the only sensible way to make it clear which version you are talking about, the Discoveries are clearly identified by their model number.
Anyway I've started a poll, so hopefully the community can decide whether we want this Rangieism foisted on the forum.
Before I joined AULRO, I had never heard of the P38a Range Rover, despite being around the car since 1994. I knew the current shape was referred to as an L322 but no one ever used the term in official Land Rover circles.
They were referred to by the VIN:
LP Range Rover
LM Range Rover
But I do agree with you regarding the Discos. Disco1, Disco2....are the norm.
I don't think it belongs in the forum name (cause too much confusion especially for new LR owners) - but can be in a sticky in the forum if anyone cares.
I previously hadn't known that the D2 was referred to as the L318. Heard the nme Tempest thrown around during development times (and it's moulded into some plastic parts) but other that that nothing. Hadn't even noticed on the forum until today. L318 might give a few more numberplate options.
Hard to understand why it matters. The term 'Discovery 2' is still the prominent descriptor identifying that particular forum.
CF=0
Pete
Oddly enough one of the few uses I've found is that it is used as a model code in database queries on the accessories.landrover.com.
I'd doesn't really matter, it's just particularly arbitrary, and seemingly pointless, to add the L code to the D2 forum and not the other forums. Yes it's an interesting tidbit but seeing it's not used except as an internal LR identifier for D2's whats the point?Quote:

This was posted last year over on defender2.net.
Quote:
L315 = Freelander 1
L316 = Defender (I think this is actually for Puma onwards only)
L318 = Discovery 2
L319 = Discovery 3 and 4
L320 = Range Rover Sport
L322 = 2002 (to now) Range Rover
L359 = Freelander 2
L405 = upcoming Range Rover
L486 = Aborted 7-seat Freelander type vehicle
L538 = Range Rover Evoque
L486:Quote:
Land Rover is planning a seven-seat sport/utility vehicle for launch in 2012. Project L486, which could be named Ventura, is a platform variant of the Freelander and will have its own unique sheet metal and interior.
The key change is a longer wheelbase and wider body to provide space for the model's seven-seat interior.
The launch of the seven-seat Ventura will give Land Rover a jump up on key rivals Audi, BMW and Mercedes who have just launched five-seat crossovers, and give it a competitor to vehicles such as the Acura MDX.

Get rid of it, i don't want to be associated with Range Rovers by people who don't understand, my nose isn't long enough :p
Just kidding :D
Can't see why it matters though, Ron's just bored :)
Cheers
