sway bars and corrugations

Incase you are not aware, those links use a tierod end (spherical joint) for the axle mount. So wear is not as bad as the angles might leave one to believe.

IMHO Land Rover made these links too short. They restrict down travel to less than stock shockies and also lead to the inverting problem.

Thanks John, I figured that out as I pulled it to bits.:angel:

The bolts were pretty knackered though.

So what's the answer ? remove the sway bar completely or can 'longer' links be got ? If I opt for a larger fuel tank which presumably hangs lower (don't like this much either) then do I need to re-jig the whole thing. :confused:

I'm pretty sure that lower link bolt has been installed incorrectly and that's what caused the problem. But I don't have one here to check.

Im pretty sure you will find that is the standard way they are installed, maybe a little tighter though. It looks to me like the end of the sway bar are has just bent inwards a little, probably from the stress over the years of being flex to its limits. I actually ripped the bolt out of mine due to large ammounts of flex.

Heres an interesting one for people looking to have unlockable sway bars... i doubt i could use this on mine with the shocks relocated infront of the axle though.

I found it on here somewhere, but cant seem to pull it up again now, it was on there news page as a new product.

Its basically an unlockable bar for the front, it mounts forward of the axle and also doubles as a steering protector. The locking mechanism is operated by 2 small air rams that slide a locking dog between 2 sections of groved bar, it attaches to the diff housing on the front radius arm mounts. If you can find it on there website there are some very detailed pictures, it looks very well made.

It's very beautiful.
