I'm after any information about a series 1 carburettor.
Do they have fixed jets or can the mixture be adjusted?
Are they easy to remove and replace?
Are they easy to recondition?
Can anybody recommend a good place to get them reconditioned?

They are the same across all S1's except for jet sizes and the 1600 version having a restrictor to reduce the internal size.
I find them a simple carby to work on and not much goes wrong with them. I had one refurbished in Caboolture a number of years ago.

As indicated above, they are a reliable fixed jet carburetter. Idling mixture and speed are the only adjustments. Mixture can be changed by changing jets. They are usually a trouble free carburetter, but it is difficult to understand exactly how they work. And the newest one is over fifty years old. They incorporate several diaphragms that maay not be fully compatible with ethanol.
Parts can be hard to find.

Gower & Lee in UK are good if you get stuck.

They have some second hand bits.
Only trouble I have had is with diaphgrams in the accelarator pump not liking ethanol. Gower & Lee do a diaphgarm kit.
Cheers, Mike.

its more complicated to setup and get "just so" than some carbies...
but once set, providing you feed it clean fuel and air Its pretty much time to forget about it.
