Serg, there are probably hundreds of different 30spl axle lengths off the shelf. Most of the FF options terminate in a flange which can easily be redrilled "in the field" to the rover drive flange pattern.
Exactly. The tolerances in OEM stub axles often allow 30spl shafts to fit through without machining. Upgrading to 30 spl will allow you to save a LOT of cost and retain a lot of stock components (hubs, stubs, etc)...or you can upgrade and hope not to bust anything. Im thinking Ben may be advising 30 spline so you do not have to change the Stub axles???
It sounds like JB is on a reasonably tight budget, so $4k an axle for a 35 spl conversion (incl locker) may be a bit high - as opposed to <<$2k an axle for a 30 spline ARB locker and axle setup complete..
The choice is an uncommon length in an uncommon spline (24), available only from Barry - if he has stock, vs one of the most common splines available anywhere.
The 30 spl Dana and 30 spl toyota are close enough that you could make a toy axle fit to get you mobile again in an emergency. AFAIK there are axle suppliers in the US who sell axles with long splined sections which can then be cut down to length.
I agree with Serg - the front axle is a stock rover tube axle which has been laminated by Maxi-Drive.
