HD CV's and Front axles questions

    Hi all

With 285/75 tyres and air lockers all round, I am a little concerned about the limited strength of the stock front axles and cv's on my 1998 Defender 130.

I have looked at the heavy duty CV's and front axles on the Ashcroft site and they look the goods.

Anyone had any expereince with these?

And what about fitting? Ashcroft site states that they are a direct replacement, but should I be replacing anything else while I am there? (wheel bearings are new)

    Thanks
    Andrew

i dont run your size tyre but have F+R lockers

i have hi-tuff axles in the rear and standard axles on the front.

i did have a CV let go years ago but i suspect it was tied and i was seeing if i could drive a section without the locker engaged........after i drove it with both lockers engaged. the replacement one was out of a TD5

    Hey Mud,

I have had Ashcroft front and rear half shafts, drive flanges and CV's in the for the two years.

No lockers (yet, but they will be Ashcroft when it happens).

Shfts and CV's were a simple fit to the TDCI, straight swap over. I went to extra bother to covert the wheel bearing to oil lubricated while I was there.

Been across Simpson and CapeYork including the CREB, no problems - issues or indication of any problems.

If you are going to go with Ashcroft, deal direct. Split your order so it's under $1000AUD 's to avoid import duty.

I got all mine landed and delivered to the door for $2200.00.

OH , don't forget the 5 year warranty.

    Cheers
