    Question Fitting Ashcroft ATB's

I have ordered 2 of Ashcroft Engineering's ATB Lsd's for the front and rear of my 02 Defender Xtreme with the p38 type rear diff.

I plan on having a go at fitting them myself (with a little help).

Anybody fitted them before and is there anything I need to know like special tools, tricks etc?

    Cheers,
    Paul.

get some oxide paste or bearing blue and check the tooth mesh pattern is correct before you disassemble the diff.

If contact pattern is right, and seal not leaking I would not touch the pinion height or preload.

Take note of the backlash and aim for the same when you set the diff up.
I do them by feel but most will reccomend you get a dial gauge and go by the book, Have a brand new one in box (dial gauge) if you want it. (gratis).

Also drain the oil after 1000klm and watch the metal paste come out. next oil change should be clean.

After fitting my truetracs, 30,000 klm ago, my front tyres are noticebly more worn than my rear tyres, other than that some of the best value for $$ you can spend on a Landy.

Make sure the cap head bolts on the lsd are tight and thread locked. My first one destroyed the diff as those bolts worked their way out and wandered between the crown wheel and pinion.
Ashcroft are good on warranty at least.

Mine came in at $525- shipped and landed (D2 unit about 6months ago). Make sure they ship via TNT, they go door to door and are good on the fees (none)

Yes, I got a gearbox from England by TNT as they were the cheapest and I was amazed that the quote also included getting it through Customs and then freighting it up here. I only had to also pay the usual import fees and so on. I was impressed!
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
