In my RAEME days, I remember a drop short complaining that the brakes on the !!a were failing. We were unable to fault them ( well, other than they were LR brakes! ), until he came in with a 105mm howitzer coupled up! The landy sailed right by the gate, and these were only 22 or 2300. Unbraked though. We told him that that was why artillery units had the MK111 Internationals.Quote:

Not sure what the old FIAT weighs, but the trailer was around 1200kg. The Disco, apart from a steep increase in fuel consumption, couldn't have cared less. Towed it from Hillston to Sassafras (Vic). The TD5 is an auto, though.
:) Photo posting time. 1200kg trailer, stripped out 130 dual cab ~1900kg, 110 Tdi with steel tray ~2200kg. The only mod to the 110 was injector pump tweaking and it went fine; sat on 90 km/h from Samford to Gatton and back; quite stable and no issues stopping. You do of course have to stay very focused on what you're doing and making allowances, but that goes without saying ;).

The SIIb is complete. In the tray (which is expanded steel mesh) is a rear PTO, 2 spare gearboxes, spare tyre and A frame.

The Australian Supplement Handbook for my '86 County-Isuzu doesn't mention towball weight. Does give Manufacturer's max GVM & GCM. The workshop manual gives maximum rear axle weight for the 110 wagon as 1750 kgs but does not give an unladen rear axle weight. So if you want to know the permitted tow ball weight, hie yourself off to a public weighbridge, get unladen axle weights and do some sums.
The circa 1986 3.5 litre Range Rover had a towing capacity when the vehicle was fully laden of 4000kg for all posted speed limits.
A maximum trailer load of 6000kg could be hauled behind a fully laden vehicle but subject to a speed restriction of 80kph.
In both cases, the trailer must be fully braked.
