On a similar note, the part for my 2a (PCV diaphragm) I ordered from Rimmers on 5th December arrived yesterday - if they are to be believed it the delay is entirely postal. Fortunately, the one I ordered a week later from Fred Smith in Melbourne only took two days to get here.

I am sorry to hear about the postal delays Mike, I have just had a similar problem myself with the Australian postal service and the situation wasn't made any easier by the Victorian based seller not taking care.
When someone is requested to send a parcel as quickly as possible by express post, surely the sender could take a little extra time writing the address of the receiver clearly, so that the postal workers can see easily the address to where to send the parcel, in my case to Brighton, Tasmania.
" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There is more than one place in Australia called Brighton.
Brighton, Queensland, a suburb of Brisbane
Brighton, South Australia, a coastal suburb of Adelaide
Brighton, Tasmania
Brighton, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne
Brighton, Western Australia, a suburb of Perth
Brighton-Le-Sands, New South Wales, a suburb of Sydney "
The post code was legible, but lumpy parcels don't pass through the automatic sorting machines to read it.
This parcel contained parts with the value of over $400 and did have a tracking number attached to it, but when I accessed the Auspost website, nothing showed !!! After it finally arrived I checked the number on the parcel's sticker and it was correct, so I can only think that the procedure for tracking was not done properly at the time the parcel was presented at the Post office from where it was sent.
So the moral of this story is; If you want to have a parcel arrive quickly to it's destination, make sure the sender takes time to write the address correctly and clearly.

Well, just got off the phone with Auspost yet again, and yet again they were as about as helpful as a fart in a spacesuit....
You'd expect that tracking numbers would be used to, you know, track the parcel on its journey from A to B. Not with Auspost. Apparently the first time the parcel will go through a scanner is at the airport at Alice Springs when it arrives. So yes, I get to track it for the 3km from the airport to Strangy's house.... Other than that, they can't tell me where my parcel is, where it's been anywhere in the last two weeks it's been floating round australia. Head gasket's gotten to do more travelling than *I* have at this stage..
Anyhow, Sutton Motors is open again today, so I'm heading down there to see if they can get one ASAP so that I can finally get out of here.....
That sucks Mike.
I was sure I'd had Express post parcels that had shown when they were lodged so I went looking on their website. Appears its only the case if they are lodged over the counter...
From the Austpost site about ExpressPost tracking stages:
Express Post
- Received by Australia Post (only shown when an item is lodged over the counter)
- In transit
- Delivered
Definitely not what I thought it was, but good to know for the future.

Yep, that's about the size of it. Certainly defeats the purpose of a tracking system if it only enters the system once it arrives on your doorstep.... That, with the "what do you want US to do about it" attitude on the phone... I could have had a gasket sent out from home at this stage.
Was chatting to Blknight.aus on the phone earlier and he's not too impressed either - think he's going to have a chat with the supplier so they can rattle the cages from their end too.
Hey Mike,
Any news?
H
Other than the fact that I've been camped in the same place so long, I've created Australia's first halting site??? :D
More phonecalls to auspost today. Now they're telling me that "Express" posted from Brisbane to Alice takes 7 to 9 days, not including half the days between Christmas and now, and despite complaints from me and the sender, they still can't tell me where the gasket is until it arrives in Alice.
Ordered another gasket through sutton motors here, will have something tomorrow.
Bloody hell Mike !! I ordered my cyl head from Turners on Boxing Day and it was delivered to my address on New Years Eve. :D 5 days all up from the UK and over Christmas :).
You would have been better off ordering from OS, anyway you should be an expert on the Alice by the time your're done. :)
Deano :)
