Anyone, any ideas would be helpful?
Hi
It smokes blackish grey at idle chugging/puffing sorta & blows more under load in park and a bit when backing off, plug to ecu is brand new, didn't make a diff, no turbo whistle when at idle anymore which makes me think its a cyl not firing while losing compression or something along those lines. haven't got a nano-com or hawk-eye to check either. Mite have to pull injectors out i think & see how they look.
Thanks

Have you checked the oil level? I can't understate the importance of doing this. If you are getting diesel contamination in the oil eventually it will start running out of control. Mine did.
I can second that, we drained 21l of oil/diesel from a mate’s D2 TD5 after he was told it was a turbo failure which he did replace, his symptoms did not go away. We replaced the injector seals and filled it up to the correct level. After about 2 weeks you could see the level rise again so we did a heart transplant. The heads on the TD5's can become pores and leak diesel from the fuel gully into the oil.
Best you catch this before your engine starts to run on it's own oil even when you have the keys in you hand. Have a look on youtube for "diesel runaway", some scary clips to be found.
Cheers, Jurgens.
Hi, got running again yesterday still puffing & chugging blackish grey smoke & missing by sounds of it but when put under load smoke changes to whitish smoke, could be turbo failure causing miss & chugging/missing due to previous diesel/oil contamination? Also is there anyone near maleny QLD with a hawkeye or nanocom I could pay for a lend of for some sort of diagnosis?
Thanks
Have you spoken with the guys that did the head work yet ?

Everything was fine with head, pressure & crack tested all good & hardness aswell, just strange that happened not straight away but about week later, someone tole me that could be hydraulic timing tensioner failed with all oil/diesel contamination, not keeping timing aligned. Or possible turbo failure as said in previous post.
Symtoms sound like petrol in the diesel. Do a flash point test. Put some of the fuel on a rag and throw a match at it.
hi, passed flash point test. no petrol in tank, only half tank of diesel. Checked timing and all lining up where should be, starting to think will have to pay auto elec to come out and read codes if any. thinking now must be injector o-ring or washer has let go since last time driven, looks like have to get them pulled out again & checked, fun times.
