    Td5 help

Hi everyone have just had head gasket done on my td5 1999 discovery, was goin fine till last week then for it to start knocking like a miss or running on not all cyls. It is smoking like over fuelling when trying to start and running. Also struggling to start while pumping out blackish smoke, any ideas?

    Thanks.

Is the sump overfull? if it is I suspect that someone has damaged an injector seal when reinstalling them.

its burning up oil for some reason or has the fuel gallery dripping into a pot on start up..

    Stop driving and start investigating.

check the oil level first, if its high check it for diesel contamination

Timing wrong. Possibly the camshaft bolts werent torqued after initial timing and reassembly.
Were the injector o rings and washers replaced?

Injector washers & o-rings were replaced, just seems strange to go good then start playing up, thought it should of happened straight away, could it be bad diesel?

Don't reckon it is your problem. Just take it back. The head replacer should be reasonable. Everyone makes a blue sometime.

Had it running again yesterday & it was chugging & missing out the exhaust blackish smoke but couldn't hear the turbo whistle like it normally would, a bit strange. Still chasing ideas.

When does it have black smoke all the time or just when you are driving it?
Black smoke can be caused by either excessive fuel or not enough air.
Don't have delaminated intercooler hose or a rag stuck in the intake or something

Have a look at the plug at the front of the head that connects the loom from the ecu to the injector harness and make sure it is connected properly. It may have come loose if not put on correctly when head was replaced.
The clips that hold it on/in may even have broken off.
Anyway have a look, hopefully it is that simple.

    Cheers,
    Paul.
