i would expect freight to be a killer, unless seafreight can be arranged.
have you tried all4x4 in newcastle? could work out cheaper.![]()
i'm after a new r380 and lt230 for my 200tdi discovery, ashcroft transmissions in the uk have very reasonable prices, one thing i'm wondering though is a rough cost of freight for these parts to australia?
has anyone ordered from ashcroft before? how much did it cost you?
they are out of the office until january 2 so i thought i would ask here in the mean time

You might be supprised on freight, remember also that Ashcrofts update their gearbox's as they repair them so your sure to get the best. Pat
Freight may not be a killer. For sales in the UK and Europe they add 20% VAT which you wont need to pay. So you may end up getting it delivered to door for close to the same price folks in the UK pay- strong Aussie dollar helps.
I bought an R380 short and LT230 off them when I was in the UK - excellent service, quality work.
They could also split up your order for delivery so that you stay under the $1000 tax threshold - if beneficial.
When they get back to you with a delivery quote, I'd be interested to know.
You will also have to factor in import duty and GST as it will be over the $1000 threshold.

this from ashcrofts in sept, delivered to darwin.for a defender.in pommie pounds
The price of the 1.4 ratio transfer box is £645 on an outright basis. The shipping Door to Airport would be approx £200-220, I would not know the exact cost until the order was packed.
so i reckon not much in it.the big killer is you have no way of doing the exchange thing unless you know someone over there who can get one and take it to ashcrofts,
I'm looking to bring over an LT77 Gearbox and their Series 5 Speed Conversion kit, from what I can gather it's cheaper to go direct with Ahcrofts than through a dealer. I will probably get them to send two parcels, that way I'm hoping it will stay under the $1,000.00 threshold on each parcel.
If sent separately the freight will work out more and you may end up paying duty/gst anyway, if sent at the same time customs will combine the values.
Ie, same flight or same vessel into Australia.
A mate here recently got a TD5 with ZF/TC shipped out for 350 quid plus AUD$420 local charges.

i looked into a borg warner transfer box from ashcrofts. freight to aus they told me would be between 200-250 pound. then you've got the core charge which for the BW was 250 pound. unit itself was 525 pound. so around 1000 pound all up. around AU$1550.
i did have a quick look online to buy a very cheap 2nd hand unit in UK and have shipped to ashcrofts but never followed up. would be interested to hear if anyone has done this.
prices on their site do not include VAT. GST (& import duty by default?) would only be applicable where the cost of goods is less than $1000 not including freight. if over $1000 then GST would be levied on total cost including freight.
In December 2011 I was quoted this from Ashcrofts for my Classic Range Rover -
autobox £ 975 outright,
borg warner transfer case £ 775 outright,
carriage approx £ 300-350 to your airport or may be able to send by sea, for less,
With import duties added it made for a total import price of about A$3900.
Have a look at this AULRO thread below. Lots of reading but very good info in it.
Why are parts so overpriced in Australia?
