    300tdi

    Hey I'm looking at a 300 tdi with 370 000 ks it needs timing belt and some small oil leak is this amount of ks as big a worrie as I think how long are they lasting I know it depends on the main trance ect but in general if looked after and rebuild kit what and where ? Any help appreciated

    I'd be comfortable buying a 300Tdi with those kms if it's otherwise okay.

    Make sure the crank bolt hasn't been butchered, welded.

    Parts you may consider replacing as a matter of course if history is unknown :

    Injectors $300
    Lift Pump $75
    Vacuum Pump $100
    Intercooler Hoses (go to silicone) $100
    Coolant Expansion tank if it's the black one $35
    Coolant Hoses $150
    Idler bearings $5ea
    Pulley tensioner (you can just replace the $5 bearing if it's ok)
    Water Pump & P Gasket $40


    prices are guesstimates, and will depend on source.

    Clean the oil breather valve (i can't remember what it's called)
    Clean the Intercooler
    Clean / Test the radiator
    Change the Filters & Oil

    water pump tips

    Don't buy a cheap after market water pump, at least buy a 'QH' ( Quinton Hazell ) or a genuine one.
    Please note, with those cheap ones, the bearings don't last the time it takes to ship one in and I have had one fail within days of installing it, had it sitting in my spares ready to use for a year before fitting it so couldn't get anything out of the seller .

    Don't forget to do the 'P' gasket as well when you disturb the tension on the water pump bolts.
