Is cookey still manufacturing disk brake vonversions.?
How do I get a hold of him?
Cheers krieds
Not sure what he has available - he hasn’t replied to any recent texts or messages but he is a bit old school - will try and call him and see what the latest is.
Cheers
that would be great
Would also like the contact if still available regarding the Disc Brake conversion for my 73 Series 3
Unfortunately Cookey has past away from what I’ve been told so no more of these are available.
Sad. Very sad.
Indeed - probably the most knowledgeable person you’d find when it came to the 2.6 litre engine. A fine Engineer and a top bloke to boot. He will be missed. Thankfully I was able to learn a bit from him along the way and grab one of these kits when they were available.
Not LandRover related but I had a desire to convert my '52 Dodge to Disc Brakes as I changed the diff ratios to something more useful on the roads. It will now get up to 100 kph and cruise nicely at 90, but the original single circuit 14" drum brakes are useless anything over 80kph , well they work, but only after you sailed through the intersection you planned on stopping at.
Disc brake kits are available ex USA but US$2500 and have the rotor flange welded to the original hub & use a welded caliper bracket, both of which are illegal in Australia.
So Remembered Cookey and his Series disc conversion thread & used it as inspiration to convert my Power Wagon using locally available off the shelf parts.
Thanks Cookey .
Armed with the DBA catalogue and a vernier caliper I came up with Toyota VDJ76 rotors and calliper for the rear and Kia rotors up front with 70 series 4 pot caliper and 70 series master cylinder. The caliper brackets are from 10mm plate with 1.5mm skimmed for perfect caliper alignment. Only problem I foresee with engineering is I might need the GVM derated to same as a 70 series ?? but then again probably not because 70 series is capable of much higher speeds so still has more kinetic energy.

Now with that conversion under my belt I'll have a look at the catalogues and see what I can come up with for my Landy. probably just be re-inventing Cookies wheel.
Beautiful work!
