It’s a shame as he has so much knowledge.
I’d love to get his extractors for my 2.6 but can’t afford them

Worth saving for - they are a work of art. Only get to look at mine at the moment as I'm nowhere near getting the engine running but I have driven Cookys 2a with a high KM big stock 2.6 just with the extractors and 2 1/4" exhaust - quite amazing the difference from a standard 2.6

He’s done a fair bit of porting work as well hasn’t he on his engine?
Mines running well but I’m sure the economy could be a bit better.

Series disc brake conversion --- I did it my way

No, not on that engine - it's standard apart from the exhaust - and a new cam I think - he's done extensive work on the heads of customers engines and has a couple that were around 140HP once done and still silky smooth. Series disc brake conversion --- I did it my way

I don't think they'll ever be an economical engine, the design is very old and efficiency is very poor compared to any newer engine. Just one of those things - close your eyes and pour in the petrol.

There a guy on the Land Rover 6 Cylinder FB page that’s just finished fitting the Westlake head on his 2.6 RHD series.
    Economy still hasn’t improved

Nice, but he really needs a set of Cookys extractors - gone to that trouble fitting a decent head that can get air in easier but still has a standard exhaust manifold. Did he fit a new camshaft? Again, Cooky has a custom grind that makes it breath heaps better but still allows it to run super smooth.

Interested to hear what mods were done to fit it (I'm not on Facebook) as I have access to a Weslake head and possibly a complete 3litre motor.

Some info here but the first link doesn't work ..... 6 CYLINDER LAND ROVER

A bit more info how do you rate 6 cyl series rover engine

It looks like his biggest issue was clearing the peddle box.

“I've cheated a little and moved the pedal box back. Pedal height needs working out but it won't change much, mainly just the pedal angle. Looks like it's given me more than enough room though, probably moved around 1 1/4"

“It's certainly easier than chopping the pedal box about at the front. The choke mechanism still fouls the steering box bracket so will have to be redesigned somehow, unless a choke off another vehicle with a HD8 would clear it. It's just the bracket and lever for the cable to operate on which is causing the trouble”

“Much better to drive with the Weslake fitted. Surprisingly much better low down torque which I didn't expect. We averaged 12mpg for the Iceland trip which was a bit lower than hoped but it is still over fuelling especially at half to full throttle - I think I know where the problem lies there so will investigate. Mind you it was heavily laden with big roof box and that was both on and off road driving combined. Driven carefully it shouldn't use any more fuel than a standard head I wouldn't think, but obviously the extra power is there if you need it but it'll drink petrol accordingly...”

“Well it'll sit at higher speeds for longer now, I.e. up hills where it didn't before but I've not really upped my highway speed - it's still very comfortable at 60mph just without having to work it as hard now. Best bit is you can put your foot down to overtake a lot easier than you used to be able to”

“Just to add to this, whilst it is all nice and together and done a good few miles now I have always been trying to make it a bit neater. I read that the P4 110 manifold for the Weslake head was a bit narrower than the P5 version I have fitted. I found one for sale individually and at a good price too so I bought it. It is indeed narrower, only by 3/4" or so but some very welcome clearance around the carb and pedal box area so that might get fitted at some point in the future.”

That’s about it from that post. Hope it helps.

    Thanks for that.
Everything I'd read mentioned the pedal box clearance issue, interesting way of resolving it by moving it back. Also the P4 manifold being narrower.

You can see how much narrower the manifold is on the LR 6-cyl.

I'll have to chase my mate up because he was scrapping a Rover car, he has my engine crane so when i collect it maybe I'll get the motor !

Does anyone have a part number for the smaller wheel cylinders used in the rear?
