Has not been mod. by me,parts book shows a gasket 592358,mine looks like a piece of tin.

Thanks. So just a gasket not really a spacer, and definitely nowhere near enough to get me any gap on the pushrod.

Looks like I need to remove it again and sort it out.

How does the new one compare to the old. i.e : is the pushrod and thread the same length.

If you still have the old one, swap the push rods over.

You were on the money with that Brian. Here's the old and new side by side - old one has a lot more thread.

I've swapped them over and now have enough adjustment to get the freeplay.

I can also confirm that if you don't have any freeplay, the clutch can pump up and eventually start slipping as 460cixy said earlier :(
