No the run dpf. In trucks like scanias it's 2-7 percent of fuel usage.
Not sure if this is in thr correct area. Do the current Diesel Landrovers/Rangerovers/defenders have the ****s additive or do they use something else to meet Euro5? Was also wondering what Jap diesels use Urea and which ones don't.
What are the additional costs?

I thought Scania favoured EGR... or am I thinking of something else?
The new(er) Volvo busses - B9R- uses fertilizer, not EGR.
euro 5 is normally met with non expendable post treatment, typically EGR's, Cats and DPF's in various forms.
Euro 5+ (euro 5 standard after a certain year and for certain classes) require the Ad blue or similar additive to post treat the exhaust. The ad blue system takes the place of the DPF in some vehicles and is supplemental to it in others.

Most passenger vehicles use common rail injection with egr to obtain the euro five rating. Adblue not available for passenger vehicles atm, no one runs it. Volvo, scania, merc and daf all use adblue where as cummins use high performance egr but even they are going to adblue as well. Diesel particulate filters for systems that run adblue are super expensive and only have a certain lifetime. The expense comes from the platinum coating that gets rid of the amonia smell after the chemical reaction takes place.
Another thinh worth mentioning is that adblue in fuel systems will destroy it, and it is extremely corrosive to copper and will corrode wiring at a rate of something like 30cm and hour if you get it on wires, so be careful.
Btw im a heavy vehicle mechanic.....
Mercedes "BlueTec": in their M and C class passenger diesels is another name for "AdBlue" -type urea supplement. Even John Deere large tractors are using the stuff... judging by the price it's amazing how much blue dye adds to the complexity and cost of these concoctions... getting the feeling it's another version of the inkjet ripoff business model!

According to the user manual, the G350 will get 12,000km out of a tank of Adblue so it is only topped up at regular services. Apparently many service stations stock smaller, emergency bottles of the stuff designed to give you about 900km range if you run out on the road. If however, you run the Adblue tank bone dry the vehicle completely immobilises.
On trucks like Mercedes & DAF, if you run out of AdBlue, the engine HP is reduced by 30% or 40% or something, so you can still keep running.
I think Mazda car diesels have AdBlue. Not sure of the range maybe 10-15k.S1 disco sounding better everyday except for the lack of power
One of the Mazda set ups i read about the adblue was supposed to last the full service time so top up is at service time.
Cummins is now supplying both egr with vg turbo and dpf.
Along side the new common rail with adblue engines in Australian Kenworth.
Next generation is supposed to have a combination of all systems.
