Td5's don't use any oil. Mine is 180,000 and the oil level never alters between 10,000 klm services.
Unless the oil level actually rises I would not be concerned about injector seals.
My new/old D2 TD5 has used NO oil since I topped it up about 2000Km ago.
The dipstick shows a smidgeon over full< 1MM and has done so since I topped it up.
My question is whether I should be worried and change the Orings and base washers?
What is the normal oil consumption of a healthy TD5 That has had 5KK oil changes since new at 137KK with known good Orings?
To me the oil smells a little of diesel, but coming from a petrol background I do not know if they all smell like that, or mine is busy replacing the oil with diesel.

agree with above. Mine uses no oil.
I'm afraid you will find that ALL internal combustion engines (that are oil lubricated) use some oil.
If you could remove all of that black crap from your oil when you drain it your oil content would be less than what you put in.
Oil is burnt in the normal process of combustion as mist passed from the sump/crankcase evaporates into the PCV system and vented back to the combustion side. Oil is sprayed up into the underneath of the piston crown to aid in cooling, some of this spray is carried to the PCV system, oil is caught on the bore surfaces and is burnt or vapourised and again carried out via the PCV system. some oil leaks onto the valve stem heads. through the valve guides (if it didn'y your valve guides/stems wouldn't last the day) and out through the exhaust.
So if your dipstick shows full or higher it is because lost oil (natural process) is being replaced by contaminants (soot/carbon) or Fuel.
Oil consumption (to a degree) is part of the process, it is designed to pick up crap and deposit it into the filters, what doesn't get caught by the filter/s is that black stuff in your oil and it takes up room, Regards Frank.
there are insignificant soot deposits in Td5 oil due the the centrifuge , i pulled my sump at 130k to do the oil bolt and it was so clean you could eat your dinner off it. Compared to the 1HDT I changed the mains on at 150,000 it had 1/4 inch of sludge in places
Provent Results, and just how much better TD5 oil filters are.
yes, some oil is lost to the PCV system I do have a provent fitted and drain off the 'catch can" every oil change, typically get about 150mm , but that amount not discernible on the dipstick.
My point is IF your engine "really" uses no oil then it's not working properly, it is designed to have some oil loss, regards Frank
My TD5 uses oil. It would have used about 1.5litres in the last 10,000km?
Totally rebuilt by Bruce Davis 100,000km ago. Penrite HPR5 Diesel Oil. No oil leaks. Doesn't seem to be coming out the exhaust on overrun?
They are NOT known for any significant oil consumption. I have seen them arrive at my workshop with no attention after 17,000km to see the oil level a smidge under full still. VERY sooty and filthy but really they are renowned for their oil control and longevity.
What Frank says is true, all engines should use oil BUT these are particularly frugal and well sealed upExcept when they leak of course....
