    Trailing arm which one would be best?

    Hey Guys

    Ian Bent the rear trailer arm today while off roading so as I have the luxury of not having to use this car as a daily driver..it can sit in the shed until I can afford to put Heavy duty Rear radius arms.

    I had a quick look and came across two on a short search.

    these ones from APT

    Of these ones from Terrafirma

    now they are both the same price they both seem to have the same wall thickness but I think the apt ones are slightly larger in diameter only a little

    however the APT are made from cold drawn welded tube and the Terras are made from co0ld drawn seamless should this come in to the decision making? or ultimately does it not matter?

    from the swarfy at work.

    seamless steel is marginally more structurally sound especially near welds its also easier to work with if you are making something that is inserted and welded (presuambly because without the seam its easier to center stuff up)

    Ok cool, I was sure that either would be, considering I have been running the genuine ones or so long...I just didn't want to buy one and find I should of really bought the other due to inherit problems with materials used etc.

    I have these "Foundary 4x4" arms on mine, very happy with them,
    except I normally hate powder coated stuff, but no complaints after 4 months touring on the dirt, rear tyres all chopped up and rear shockers sandblasted but Trailing arms still looking like new.

    yeah they look OK going bush only thing is would rather buy here in Oz as the price here doesn't seem too bad, and I was thinking about putting the crank ones on.

    You can also just grab some classic Rangie arms with bolts and all the bush's as they are stronger thicker tube than the cheese sticks on the D1 disco .
    I was running those on on my twin locked D1 with out any probs

    Terrafirma cranked rear arms.

    Hi Dullbird,
    I have Terrafirma cranked rear arms on my old Defender 90.
    I am also looking around for arms for my new Defender TDCi 90 to replace the spaghetti that it comes with from the factory.
    I find the terrafirma arms good with an (approximate) 2 inch lift, however I do have a few issues with clearance between the arms and the brackets on the axle tubes that they attach to.

    I have read before (I think it was on this forum) about relieving (grinding) the brackets to allow for more flex and clearance.
    I'll try to include a photo showing the issues with mine.
