    Diesel snot,

    CAM00206.mp4

Noisy injector pump on my 300tdi Rangie, after talking to a few learned members on here it's most likely to be diesel bug. admittedly no one has seen this vid as yet. Car is not smoking nor down on power. Thinking a biocide might do the trick but I can only find diesel additives available over the counter to assist in the growing of fungus. I know the wont hurt but will a big bottle of diesel power do the trick and KILL the Bastard or will I have to drop and clean the tank (get someone else to because I cannot be arsed). I wonder if Canesten would help?

    Hi Matt,

The usual cause of noisy pump is a failed lift pump. Try checking the filter for snot first, if none evident I'd say you are looking at a new lift pump. If you have a sediment bowl fitted, check that too as it will be brimming with algae etc if the snot is actually to blame.

I just listened to the sound, are you certain it isn't a chuffing from behind the head, IE a compression leak from the back of the cylinder head gasket?

What JC said. Definitely not an issue that a fuel additive will solve.

I had a similar noise which turned out to be a leak around #4 injector.

Hey I'm only a noob when it comes to diagnosing landies from a video, but I'll be damned if thats not the EXACT same sound my 300tdi defer engine was making not 3 weeks ago!

It was a head gasket gone on the back of the head as JC said and apparently its a fairly common way for them to go.

Hope you have better fortune than mine if it is that. I had to replace the head in the end

I have better fortune than you. The head gasket is 100%. Exhaust manifold gasket is perished.

And the diesel knock is gone with a treatment of diesel power.

If the head was suspect I wouldn't of bought the car.
