    200tdi into 300tdi disco

I am looking to put a 200 tdi into a 300 tdi disco as the 300 tdi motor has a hole in the block and not repairable, I have a spare 1992 200tdi motor I can install with gearbox and transfer case, just wondering if any one has done it and if so, do they have any advice?
I know the radiator is different but am not worried about that, just not sure about motor mounts or if anything hidden that needs doing.

No major differences asides what youve already mentioned, you might even get away with the 300 Block mounts on the 200, might also be able to link a 200 disco front pipe to the 300 exhaust.

Also, unless its completely gubbed I'd be looking to leave the R380 in there, it'll bolt up to the 200 no problem.

Thanks. I forgot about the exhaust. Might have to weld up a new one but I will sort that when I get there

Either that or stick the 300 Tdi manifolds on the 200. They're a bolt on swop, inlets are the same between 200/300 discos also.

Here is another thought, will a 300 tdi gasket set be similar to a 200tdi gasket set? I see the head gasket set is sold as the same item on some ebay stores, so was wondering if the rest of the gaskets are the same, not including water pump and timing belt? Any one know?

    Tdi

So the disco i will be replacing the 300 Tdi with is now without motor gearbox and transfer, It is also an automatic so i will have to convert it to 200 tdi with manual LT77 and transfer box and install clutch pedal, just as well the donor vehicle has all the necessary parts, so when i pull out the 200 tdi i was thinking of doing the seals and gaskets, head gasket and replacing anything that was leaking so just wondering if anyone know if the 200 tdi gasket set is the same as a 300 tdi?

yep, the head pattern is the same, the head shape however is different in the injectors and combustion chamber lay out....

IIRC the pistons are different and some other tom foolery as well.

if you have both the 200 and the 300 then you can pretty much interchange them with very minor fab work.

ok so if i have the 300 tdi head i can bolt it onto the 200tdi block, and also bolt on the 300tdi turbo and manifold?
In theory i can use most of the 300tdi gaskets on the 200 tdi. so that i dont need to go and buy another gasket set.

There isn't a great advantage to putting a 300 head on a 200 bottom end, although it has been done for various reasons.
There are a great many similarities between the 200 and 300, but as many differences, and both versions have their merits.

Depends how much you want to mess around really.
