I am assuming a 200tdi or 300tdi but you might want to clarify what engine and vehicle you are talking about.

I recently purchased a performance intercooler, finally managed to install "minor modifications needed" ye right pigs can fly too!! Followed suppliers instructions for fuel pump adjustment and getting nowhere.
Instructions call for removal of 4 screws on cap of compensator, carefully remove rubber diaphragm and shaped pin below, move pin somewhere between small step and large step giving me compensation for leaner mixture provided by intercooler.
Did all that and decided not happy with vagueness of instructions. Perused forum and found Ian Petersons guide. Realized I was way out of my league.
Question is how do I know when I am back to original setting so I can start again?? No I didn't take note of "centre punch reference mark" as supplied instructions didn't call for it.
Do I just assume that small step should be facing front in which case reference punch is at 3 o'clock position and start from there? Ian is a bit ambiguous in regards to this as he says his original position was at 12 o'clock (page 3) and then on page 7 says his original position was 8 oclock
So...where do I start?? Remembering I am mechanically disadvantaged.
Cheers, Pete

Assuming you're talking 300TDI there is an excellent guide on tweaking the pump. I have the link at home, but I'm on my phone now. If no one else posts it ill get back to you.
One thing thing the guide says is mark all pieces before adjustments so you can return to original... Do I see an "uh oh" moment coming up?![]()
Ahh I wasn't sure if you meant a different guide.
easy
pull the whole pin assembly out of the housing, you'll notice an orifice with a pin that comes out and rides on the pin. (its on the "front of engine" side of the pump on a tdi)
look at the pin (its actually an eccentric ground taper cam) see the wear mark on the tapered face?
line that up the wear mark with the orifice
theres your factory setting.
