    2SO into Puma Tdci

I know there are a few of you doing this, and even into TCV6 etc too, but this is Just a bit of feedback from a customer today that had been annoyed last week by the ongoing clatter of his Puma 130, worse when hot, part/ light throttle. I suggested after some extensive research, and diagnostics of his fuel system that appears to be functioning just fine, to try it.

100ml/ tank of good old Mercury branded outboard 2SO....totally fixed it, INSTANTLY and he even commented it feels smoother/ more responsive.

From what I have read it is very common in UK due to winter grade fuels, and even 'normal' fuels will cause it, too. Also has a good effect on the EGR valve preventing excess sooting apparently, ( Although I would add that also has a lot to do with driving style etc too) so it seems to be a win all round for these, and I presume most other CR engines.

There's a huge thread on Disco3 talking about adding 2SO to the TDV6/SDV6, and they rave about it.

Given that the numbers of vehicles they have tested it with, there has to be something in it. One of those things that must be worth a go for the sake of a bottle of oil.

There is a huge section on the 4wd action site under diesel engines.
I have been using Castrol Active 2T in my Dmax for 100.000 kms and it is definitely quieter and smoother with the oil added at around 200:1.

My brother has been using 2st oil in his Navara and it has clocked over 400.000 kms and the motor has not been touched,

I have a friend with a Prado D4D. He is very careful with it and also maintains it very well. It has gone through 2 sets of injectors in 90.000 kms. He will now also be using 2 stroke as well if he can work out how to add it with the twin tank set up.

I'd rather use a dedicated diesel additive like Redline's excellent RL2 which has high temp detergents to keep the chamber and EGR system clean as well as a polyolester lubricant similar to their two stroke race oil.

the current suspicion is that the 2 stroke oil retards the flame front during the Prime phase of the initial injection sequence.
