Transfer box I plan to use is a 26D 1.003 I pulled off a TF727, to my amazement the input gear spline is perfect, it was also oily, but no crossdrilling and no slinger. Haven't looked into in but perhaps the 727 was weeping ATF and keeping it lubed

The only problem with those early LT230 transfers - if yours is the same as the one on my TF727 - is that there are a couple of little spacers or thrusts that aren't available anymore.

You might have the 14D early LT230R? this is a LT230T? Be interesting if it'll have enough guts to pull such a tall ratio, but some of my reasoning is it keeps me out of 5th gear a bit more, and away from one of the LT85's weakness

as long as Im blowing nice Toyota diesel smoke over Dougal's 4BD1T Rangie's bonnet as I overtake him Il be happy:p

Hi All, i'm new to this site after being talked into buying a land rover by my brother who is a long time Land rover owner. To cut a long story short, i purchased a 110 county from my uncle with a 4bd1 and lt85 gearbox. The gearbox had recently been done up at considerable cost before i purchased it. 2nd gear was ordinary to shift but bearable. 3 weeks after i got it the circlip retaining the collar holding 5th gear in place broke allowing 5th gear to slide back and smashing all the energiser pads. I replaced all broken parts and retained original bearings and syncros as they were in good condition. When i replaced the oil in the gearbox i went with a full synthetic dexron 3 instead of the motor oil recommended. The shifting of 2nd gear that was ordinary was vastly improved with the change in oil
