Can't see ATF saving valve seats.
Just after some advice... I saw a post on REMLR about a guy who is using Auto Transmission Fluid with Unleaded fuel rather than the lead Replacemnet liquids you can now buy. i think he said 100mm to 20L.
Does anyone else do this? Is it safe?

I saw that post too, but I'm not too sure about blindly following that advice :?

holy crap! me and a mate were just talking about this!
he borrowed 2 20l tins off a friend,( one containing 750mls of atf)
and filled them up, he got an extra 80k's from his tank. he had to do the same trip the next day( with standard fuel, no atf, and got the same old
mpg as he usually gets. so he tryed it again, and it worked. this is an mq patroll sd22 motor just recoed, by myself. it runs a lot smoother and blows
less soot. but dont know what it does to the motor! :?
will find out in a year or two, if it lasts that long
How very mysterious :!:
I wonder if we can find out if there is any long lasting effects.

I remeber my old man telling me once that a dash of diesel to lawnmower fuel makes them go better. I have tried this and it does work, dont know what the side effects are, - was an old mower.
I also know that if you pour brake fulid into the carby of a datto 1200 then youll get the best smoke screen you have ever seen - James Bond got nothing on that!! (I know im sad!)
In all seriousness it is probably true the ATF probably lifts the octane rating of the fuel, = less throttle to go harder = less fuel consumption. Long term effects i dont know but there would have to be increased heat produced, and seeing as this post is about valve seats etc i couldnt see it doing them any good.
I do know that if the missus runs PULP (Premium Unleaded) in her car she gets about 200 extra clicks per tank over std unleaded. Go figure.
Fuel addetives can be ok, taken in moderation, if pain persists see your doctor !
take care

There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours
brake fluid was often used in the trade to decoke engines in days gone bye..
they used to pour brake fluid down the throat of the carby till it coughed and died, leave 3 hours then take it for a good run, with a few short high rev bursts.
the smoke trail was usually very effective
and some extra chunky bits of carbon used to fly across the tarmac.
worked in several garages as a youngster where that was common practise.
would be frowned upon bigtime these days just on the pall of smoke alone hehehehe

Just as an update, this was posted on the REMLR board in reply to a question that I posted about the ATF
The adding of ATF to ULP was not discovered by me, it was information that had been researched by smarter people than me, it has been used by fuel injection specialist's to clean fuel injectors also works on diesel injectors as well.
Basically it works something like this Gov'ts have removed the Lead content out of the petrol lowering the octane rating and this tends to increase combustion chamber temp thereby burning out exhaust vavle seats, by adding ATF (100mls per 20ltrs ULP) you have put back in Zinc which increases the octane rating of the fuel brings down the combustion chamber temp which if your timing is OK will stop pinging, my mate told me all this info tody and also said he would try to get hold of the data sheet if so I will get RC to post it somewhere for all to read, so you can please yourself what you use but I'm personally V/happy with the formulae my little L/r's go really well with it, BUT remember if you are a REV HEAD this may not save your engine, I drive at 85/90kph and I dont try to cross the continent in 3 days either, cheers.
I'll follow ip when more info is to hand
