Ignition Problems V8. Won't start. Looking for tips
Hi
Trouble shooting my 4.2 Rover V8 ignition system. Duel Fuel.
It was misfiring over bumps after recently replacing the Distributor Cap due to center (rotor) spring contact falling out. Thought the problem was solved but the mis-fire has returned.
No I cant get it to start at all.
It has crane XR3000 pointless ignition box.
I have tried everything I can think of to get it going, but get nothing not a flicker.
That said have tried the following:
- The crane Pointless ignition box responds to the distributor wheel - flashes when spun up by starter motor
- Coil Resistance 4 Ohm across inputs 10 K across outputs
- Rechecked all leads and firing order wiring cleaned with tool and contact cleaner
- Cleaned the rotor and contacts in the housing
- There is spark at the coil lead end when presented near to ground.
- There is spark on, well on No#4, looked weak, but sun was shining so hard to tell. Shows up with timing light too.
- There is fuel in the carby bowls removed lines and checked pump.
- Distributor optical pick up looks fine and has not moved on the plate - yellow tell tale taps.
Any one good with these ignitions and able to give me some tips. What should I do next?
Thanks in Advance
Clive

Rotor buttons sometimes burn through the plastic to the distributor shaft, just try a new rotor, preferably genuine Lucas.
