I have a Mantec snorkel fitted, had to use plenty of silastic to seal up the entry to the airbox. Seems to be ok. Often wondered, would a Donaldson pre-filter be a good addition? Here's something from Donaldson, Bob [ scroll down on the image of page 1]

No idea to be honest was on the car when I got it and its that old there's no visible part numbers its just one of those ones with the clear plastic bowl in the middle that's no longer clear. I really should buy a new one. Edit mines like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tractor-A...item4ad49745e1 so long as it fits the end of your snorkel you should fine there's a few different sizes.

There are also precleaners which just throw stuff out rather than collecting it in a bowl.

I would absolutely run one on a mower. Along with a Donaldson cylindrical air cleaner and possibly even a raised air intake.

Funny re finer filters.i have usedUnifilter socks in my snorkel for many years when on heavily trafficked dirt roads. They block up in about 3 days but leave the main filter clean. I used them in my RRC and now D2 .
Finer and uni are the same company now based in Gosford.
The secret is to use the uni filter oil and plenty of it. I cannot see how the mower filter would not block unless it had the wrong oil or not enough.
I reckon uni filter socks are great. I do have a Donaldson swirl thingo but it is a PITA as it is so big, it doesn't fit on with my awning.
BTW uni and K&N are no good as main filters. As 14cux do not have a " burn off" phase in theMAF and so are quickly oil fouled.
    Regards Philip A

Used as a pre cleaner I think there ok I have used them my self over the years for that. But as a main filter I wouldent touch em again. All filter cleaning was done to the letter of the instructions useing finer filter filter oil. Walker C-Series these are the machines in question and with the catcher designe in dry conditions the dust is un real it used to have a snorkel and pre cleaner but some operators seemed to continually bust it off

As a precleaner won't they just pack with rubbish?

My lawnmower has a foam precleaner and it's wedged full of seeds which are a pita to remove.

A cyclonic precleaner throws the rubbish clear of the air path.

I've borrowed a John deere f935 many times and it uses a Donaldson cylinder air cleaner. They do an excellent job of throwing dust out. Just need to empty the case when the filter minder says it's full.

most importantly it maintains constant performance over time and does not get more restrictive with increased dust load.
