    That's the spirit. It's easy to start lower and put a stop on the wastegate as you wind it up and up.

    If you have to rebuild it, look at decreasing the compression ratio. That'll help. There must be a catalogue of tricks somewhere to help keep the 300tdi head down and cool.
    You'll probably need a full width radiator and full width intercooler.

    I'm looking to go a full length radiator and intercooler when I do the turbo and manifold.

    re the head, I'm looking to drop compression a few points, ARP studs, porting the head and opening up the water galleries a bit. I'm thinking ceramic coating the piston crowns, and exhaust wheel on the turbo to try and get everything to live a bit longer..

    Out of interest, what sort of torque would tension the head at?

    I'm not going to offer you any 300tdi specific advice, I've never owned one.

    But nix the ceramic coating. Those who have tried it found it AWOL next time they entered the engine. Which means it's all flaked off and done the rounds of oil and bores.

    I've suggested this turbo because it can provide enough air to burn clean and cool. There is no need for high EGT or melting pistons.
