    Yet another Turbo question 300TDI

    Disco 1 300 TDI auto.
I have read on the various forums how people feel the 300TDI turbo "kick in" at about 1750 RPM I think. Mine doesn't do that. I also don't seem to get turbo lag. The acceleration is quite linear. Everything works ok, boost is where it should be about 15psi WOT, no delamination of hoses (new silicone) vehicle goes very well. I disconnected boost hose to pump and vehicle was like a slug so definitely working.
As I have a larger intercooler, I have fiddled with pump, adjusting smoke screw, diaphragm and star wheel, I keep egt's below 650.
Vehicle is considerably quicker off the mark than it used to be. No missing or lack of power.

My question is, Should I be able to feel turbo kick in or have I just fluked it so that everything runs well??
    Thanks
    Pete

    No, don't be concerned.

You could notice it with a boost gauge.

Is this something you've just done, as I would be interested in your fuel economy? Cheers.

I do have a boost gauge but again just a smooth boost from 0-15psi

My fuel economy remains pretty well as before, maybe using 1L more /100k

I am pushing more fuel through because of pump adjustments but I assume more efficient due to upgraded intercooler. Not quite but almost lots more power for not much more fuel. I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me can explain why.

Your answer is yours is an auto. The manuals have more lag than the auto. I know my manual had lag until around 1800rpm, but all the autos I drove had no lag or it was negligible.
It is to do with the auto and torque convertor keeping the idle up closer to the boost point I believe.
