Question Making a up n over

Greetings O' wise ones, I'm kicking an idea around I my head and would like to bounce few of them off the Landy gods and see what comes out of it.

I have a s1-109, s2- 88, s3-109, range rover 89, disco 97 and it's time to do something all run but s1 motor is out.

The s2 is going back on the road this year, the rest I want to play with.
I'm thinking of putting s1 cab on to range chassis, and the s3 cab on the disco, and hot rod both maybe.

    Over to you lot..
All the very best to ya for 2014. CHEERS

Do lots of homework on the legalities of your ideas. The year of your "invention" is based on the chassis year in most (all ?) cases. This means you will need to comply with the design rules of THAT year.

Good luck with it as a lot of Landy Nuts dream of a doing similar thing.

You need an engineers report if you want to drive them on the road.
There are many discussions on this subject on this forum already. Just search 100" or A 4x4 is born.
The Series 3 if put on to a RRC chassis should be a doddle but on to a Disco chassis, a little harder. Series 1 on to a RRC chassis, probably the most difficult idea you have.
Why not coil the S1 chassis?

Yes, talk to your Engineer first, and see what they have to say. I would imagine a Series 1 body would not meet the requirements of the year of chassis you are using.

The Series 3 body on your Rangie chassis may work if the Engineer is flexible, but the best way of doing this is to use a late Series 3 body on an early Rangie Chassis - if you get the built dates of the series body and Rangie chassis the same you will have less hassles.

There is no easy way around this - it is getting very hard to do this successfully now. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - I love a good Hybrid, but it isn't as simple as plonking the body on going for a drive any more.

    All the best.

Hi there. Gav, Mick and Pop have all given good advise. From what I've seen here, its not easy to get 'specials' on the road. Having built several modified 'blitza' Land Rovers in the UK, the other thing to bear in mind is that it is A LOT of work making Series Bodies fit Rangie and Disco chassis's.. Micks 100" has turned out well, but I bet it was hard work... Outriggers to be fitted, cross-members to be added, wings to be cut, steering to be modified, gear levers in the wrong place... etc etc etc etc... Good luck, should you choose to accept this mission, all your Land Rovers will self destruct shortly!
