Thanks, i went there from the first link. Excellent stuff.... and very detailed, WITH the reasons... both good and depressing... confirms my view that the Rover 3.9 is simply not worth - dollar$ expenditure - doing up properly.... IMHO the money would be better spent on a new engine, of almost any brand except LR... Detune it and/or beef up the transmission.:angel:
PS. I'm told the Holden alloy V8 makes a good drop in, though a bit hard on the ZF....
WOW! thanx for all the replies guys. I still got the misfire and i've just noticed something strange, again. Standing in front of the car, the first 3 cylinders on the right bank run cooler than all the other cylinders. Quite noticable to the touch. Any ideas what causes this?

All comes down to $ and time. If you're happy to do the work yourself then I'm sure decent results can be wrung from the rover V8. In stock form the VE (volumetric efficiency) looks woeful (the ECU has VE tables). The fixes for that are porting, unhooking the water lines to the throttle body and playing with the intake plenum.Quote:

Depends how much you love it really. Personally I think I can get my Isuzu 3.9 diesel to 200kw for less time and money than a Rover 3.9 V8 but still get 10km/litre when cruising.
I just need:
Air-cleaner capable of 500CFM and decent firation. Got that.
Turbocharger capable of ~30psi at 4000rpm. Holset HE221, will get one.
Intercooler capable of shedding ~30kw. Just found one.
Radiator to fit around that intercooler. Just found one.
Large exhaust. On the list once everything else is sorted.
Gearbox that will handle over 600Nm. Got that.
Clutch that will handle over 600Nm. Not sure.
The design and fabrication required to make all that fit and play nicely together should not be underestimated.
Just thought I'd give you guys a update. Had nothing to do this evening so took out my can of carb cleaner, my syringe and proceeded to clean the spare set of injectors I had lying around. Pulsed each one a few times with a 9v battery while I had some carb cleaner in there. Installed them on the three dodgy cylinders and BEHOLD! The misfire was gone. Well it sounds pretty damn good I think. Bit of hesitation, but revs up very nicely and sounds almost like a v8 should sound :-) Gonna see how things go tomorrow after I get back from work. I should have thought of doing the fuel system as the landi was standing for more than a year. I also just took a bottle of valve ease, disconnected the vacuum pipe from the fuel pressure regulator and sucked it all up in there, slowly. I forgot to open the damn garage door when all this was going on. I couldn't see shyte in front off me. And the wife's sort of ****ed because the washing that she just washed, now smells like fumes and other nasties.
